Welcome to our clinical research study page for individuals who are experiencing symptoms of psychosis.

If you are experiencing strange or unusual thoughts or perceptions, or you know someone who is, please read on to learn about an important opportunity to participate in a clinical research study.

This research study will evaluate an FDA approved medication, the "study medication," that is used to treat individuals experiencing psychosis. Our research study is evaluating treatment for individuals whose first psychotic episode occurred within the last 24 months. When symptoms of psychosis are experienced for the first time within the prior 24 months, the condition is sometimes called "recent-onset", "first episode" or "early stage".

The study medication will be compared against other approved medications, so all study participants will receive an approved medication. All treatment medications used in the study are FDA approved.

This study page is intended for individuals experiencing symptoms of psychosis, as well as caregivers and loved ones of such individuals.

The psychiatrist may ask...

There are no medical tests to diagnose schizophrenia. A psychiatrist will examine the person and make the diagnosis. The diagnosis is made based on an interview of the person and family members.

  • How long symptoms have lasted
  • How the person's ability to function has changed
  • What the person's developmental background was like
  • About the person's genetic and family history
  • How well medicines have worked
  • Whether the person has problems with substance abuse
  • About any other medical conditions the person has

Research

Doctors and scientists are constantly developing new medications and devices that will help prevent, detect, diagnose, control, and treat illnesses. A clinical trial is a scientific study that tests these new discoveries. Clinical trials depend on the participation of volunteers like you!

Why Participate?

Medical research studies can be a great opportunity for people to receive medical care at no cost and to learn more about their medical condition. Volunteers in medical research studies, in most cases, are compensated for their time and travel commitments in the form of a stipend. At Olympian Clinical Research, we try to make volunteering a positive experience for every participant.

Our friendly staff understands and recognizes that all participants in medical studies are volunteers; therefore, we respect every participant's time and commitment. In addition to compensation, volunteers often receive diagnostic testing and careful evaluation by a board- certified physician. Lastly, many volunteers discover that participating in clinical research can be a valuable learning experience that allows them to have a better understanding of their medical condition and potential treatment options.

Can I Participate in a Clinical Trial?

Before participating in a trial, volunteers must meet specific requirements. These requirements are based on various factors, such as your age, medical history, current health status, current medications, and allergies.

The circumstances that qualify volunteers for participation are called Inclusion Criteria and those that prevent participation are called Exclusion Criteria. These requirements are used to ensure the accuracy of the trial as well as the safety of all participants. We will be able to determine if you qualify for a study once we speak with you and complete a screening assessment at our office.

Health Insurance and Participation Costs

Health Insurance is not required to participate.

There are no charges to you for participation in this medical research study. You will not be charged for study medication, study-related procedures and tests, or study visits.

Voluntary Participation and Informed Consent

Participation is always voluntary and participants can choose to withdraw from a study at any time. Every medical study has different requirements, procedures, risks and benefits. These will be reviewed with you in full prior to joining any study at Olympia Clinical Research.
